Apply for Free Books
for Your School Library!

Do you need brand new books for your school library? Are you a school librarian in Alabama? Would you like to receive over $3000 in free books for your students? If so, The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) wants to help you promote literacy and bookjoy via the SLIS Book Bonanza for the Black Belt (and Beyond) Program.

Applications for 2023 book give-away program have now open! The deadline to apply is midnight February 28, 2023.

 The SLIS Book Bonanza for the Black Belt (and Beyond) program annually donates new, free children’s and young adult books to multiple school libraries in the state’s Black Belt region and to one school library in an economically deprived area of the state outside the Black Belt region.
 
To apply, school librarians should complete an application on the "Apply Now" page and submit it by midnight on February 28, 2023 to the email address or fax number available on the application). Please be sure to put “Book Bonanza” in the email  or fax subject line. Only completed applications will be accepted.
Note: There is an application for schools in the Black Belt and a separate application for low-income schools outside the Black Belt region of the state.
 
On March 21st, at least four winning Black Belt school libraries and two "And Beyond" school libraries will be selected. Each school library will receive on average over $3000 worth of free NEW books. Once notified, winning school librarians will coordinate with representatives from the School of Library and Information Studies at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa for delivery of their free books.
